Our 2018 Project: Covenant House Texas Youth Intake and Drop-In Center
Covenant House Texas (CHT) opened its doors in 1983 to provide shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned youth ages 18 - 24. After more than 30 years of service, CHT is still one of the only service providers in Texas of its type, offering an extensive continuum of care to the homeless youth population in Houston/Harris County.
Founded in 1983
Services are available 24/7
In 2017, 1,633 youth were served in the Youth Drop-In & Intake Center
Youth Demos:: 71% Black, 18% White, 9% Hispanic
61% Male, 37% Female, 3% Transgender
19% seeking shelter at CHT impacted by Harvey
Since Harvey, CHT has had up to 20 overnight youth sleeping in the Drop-In & Intake Center due to overflow
We hope to make this space less office space, more teen hangout with our initial plan:
Interior windows/ doors and pony wall knockout for better room flow and visibility
Move intake desk area to increase size of welcome area
Add lockers near bathrooms for personal belongings and luggage
Move administrate storage
Paint rooms to match
Move and increase size of lounge area
Upgrade old and worn furniture, lighting, window blinds to create a home environment
